PARIS FABRIC HABERDASHERY SHOPPING

As far as any sewing bee is concerned, Paris is a destination which offers a choice of unique fabrics and trimmings you won’t be able to find here. There are particular addresses you must visit not only for what they sell, but for the shopping experience they offer, their setting and the area they are situated in.

Montmartre

Fabric

Head straight to the Marché Saint Pierre at the feet of the Church of the Sacré Coeur to visit the most iconic place in Paris for fabric.

I found a French blog by a French seamstress and designer with an interesting list of fabric shops in Paris. However, it still recommends the two above as essential plus a few more in the same area. Visit: http://atelierclaraines.canalblog.com/archives/2012/09/17/25121595.html

La Droguerie « FreshStitches

La Droguerie
9-11 rue du Jour, Paris 1er
Métro Les Halles

Founded in 1978 La Droguerie is by far the best haberdashery there is in the world. Situated in an old butchery in Les Halles, it has bags of character and supplies. Wool by the gram, buttons, ribbons, patches, an entire wing full of jars of beads, everything to make jewellery, feathers and flowers, all kind of embellishments. To list their offering doesn’t even describe what La Droguerie is all about. Prepare to spend at least 30 minutes to browse the shop and decide on what you want and up to 20 minutes to queue up to buy anything as the staff helps customers with their choices and their creations.

La Droguerie has shops in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Rennes, Strasbourg, Toulouse and a corner in “Le Bon Marché” department store in Paris. They are also present all over Japan. London would benefit from having La Droguerie as there’s nothing like it here. If you are interested in setting up a franchise in London, please contact La Droguerie directly: ruedujour@ladroguerie.com

Whilst walking through Paris, I came across a great haberdashery Entrée des Fournisseurs in the Marais. The shop is situated in the famous street rue des Francs-Bourgeois, in a beautiful courtyard. They sell trimmings, fabrics and everything you'd expect from a shop of this kind, including an amazing range of antique buttons. Well worth a visit. They also have an on-line shop: http://www.entreedesfournisseurs.fr/
