On 15th March I visited the Stitching and Knitting Show at Olympia organised by Twisted Thread.

Whatever your style, you're guaranteed to find a couple of stalls of some interest. Overall, the majority caters for older women with very traditional tastes, and not much outwardly hip about what's on offer. However, armed with a list of things to find, you end up with a few bargains and excellent finds. I found plenty of ribbons, bags full of buttons, cheap wool cloth and dupion which are very expensive in shops.

Folksy, Ray Stitch and Selvedge had their stalls which were the best. A student show and loads of workshops were also on offer. A show worth visiting if you want to find things you're not prepared to look for all over London.

I have one criticism though, they've allowed a bag seller to trade in fakes. Copies of Cath Kidston and Orla Keily bags and The Cambridge Satchel Company. All these companies were founded by women who worked hard to get where they are and copies is not only an offense, it is also a complete lack of respect. I have sent an e-mail to Twisted Thread. Let's hope they'll take notice. I never got an answer. The best policy is not to buy them. www.twistedthread.com
